February Update

It’s been a month, as usually but February has wrapped and I have a brief update for you.

While nothing has improved on an emotional or financial front I’ve been trying to get my work out there a bit more so I had the Fluid show from the 30th of January through to the 8th of February. Then I followed that up with a three month residency at Howler bar in Brunswick.

The Summer Daze Howler residency started on the 18th of February and finishes up on the 18th of May. I have two pieces in this exhibition, ‘Kicken it Oldskool’ and ‘It Comes in Waves’. They have been taken down from the site for the time being as they are on sale at the venue. It looked like a pretty nice venue when I dropped off the artworks.

Back in the day I would enjoy fidgeting with loose threads knotting them together in odd shapes. When I had the vision for Kicken and started pulling it together I felt a great sense of nostalgia, leading to the title of this piece. It is a bright pastel piece filled with hope and remembrance of good days. “It Comes In Waves” is the darker sister to Kicken. Inspired by the fluctuating nature of creativity and depression, these emotions inform and undermine each other in a constant cycle.

I have booked a piece into another exhibition in Geelong from the 19th of March. I’ve not had confirmation that I’ve been accepted into that one, so more later on that.

I’ve also done a website update, adding three paper dolls, with two more ready to go. I’m hoping to finish up more of the Melbourne series before starting to list those online. My two acrobat girls Amara and Zephyr are online with the latest Heartstopper fanart doll, Tara. Hopefully Darcy is not too far behind. … Though given I’ve not started it it will probably be a while.

At the beginning of February I started a course two days a week so I’ve been busy getting back into the swing of studying. It’s a year long course, I can easily art around the course but there are going to be times where not much else is done.
