Probably unsurprisingly, although intending a March update when I posted my February update, we’ve now had March, April, May with no update.
Fair to say I’ve been a little stalled.
So lets pick up where we left off. As mentioned in February I stared a course. I’m training to be an Education Support Worker, which means, if I find work, I’ll be liaising with teachers and students with special needs in a classroom setting. We’re very nearly half way through, and fast approaching the mid year holidays. With 8 assessment tasks in the bag and 18 still complete it seems the worst is ahead of us.
So maybe a July update might disappear as fast as March did.
In March I had a piece, All My Heart in a show in Geelong at Untether Gallery. The theme of the show was Worn and I felt a heart fitted in with that them. The show started just as petrol prices sky rocketed so I didn’t get back to visit the show while it was in full force only seeing a little of the works when I went to collect.
Untether Gallery is in a sweet little arcade off Malop street in Geelong that houses several artists studios, a beautifully bright atrium, and tattoo parlours. I’d say it’s the artistic hub of the town, but the town is Geelong with artistic hubs all over.

In the last week the Howler Summer Daze residency finished and my daughter and I drove over to collect my pieces.
I had planned to do several shows this year and do a lot more self promotion. The first proper show I entered was such a joy. The submission process involved sending images of the piece and the show was curated selecting the pieces they preferred. The most of the shows I have entered this year seem very pay to play. Most have not even requested an image in the submission form.
While I see the benefits to having pay to display options I’m not sure they are for me at this time. Funds are tight and while $30 here and there isn’t excessive, the payment and then fuel and time all adds up. I guess I’ve hit the point where I don’t really expect anything will sell so it seems quite vain to be paying people to display my work for my own pleasure. So I have not entered any others for the time being.
Late April we had a campfire and I took a picture of the little one I’m quite fond of. Other than that I’ve been busy with school work and placement. I’m hoping to get something creative done over the next few weeks before class ramps up again.
